pike brewing

By the time we opened Pike Brewing Company, our beer lust had taken us to many family owned, American breweries. Less than a dozen dated from pre-prohibition and a tun (200) were recently opened and called 'micro-breweries'. Our quest also took us to classic breweries in England, Germany, France, Belgium and Scandinavia. In each and every brewery, the delicious bouquet of malted barley and herbal scent of hops, plus the culture of beer, left lasting memories. Some of our most memorable meals have been enjoyed in pubs, beer gardens, gasthäuser, and in the homes of brewers. In each of them, the delicious nature of beer and its extraordinary affinity to food was exposed. These breweries' beers, customs, history, and business practices, and the friendships that we made as result of them, are constant inspiration.

Some people would say that today, Seattle has become one of the best places on the planet to drink beer. If our city is a lens though which the craft beer scene can be seen, our own Pike Place neighborhood is a perfect picture. Thanks to the recently opened Cloudburst Brewing and the soon to open Old Stove Brewery we now have our own brewery district. Between the three of us we have more beers than the whole state offered in 1989! In addition to great beer, our neighborhood, the epicenter of Seattle, has America's historic Pike Place Market and with it, more great restaurants per capita than any other neighborhood, The Seattle Art Museum, Benaroya Hall, The Aquarium, the waterfront, ferries to Bainbridge, the Great Wheel, and Copperworks Distillery. Please pay us a visit.

A good time to visit would be during Seattle Beer Week, which runs for more than a week from May 12-22. Pike Brewing Company has been an active part of Seattle Beer Week since its inauguration in 2009 when we brewed the commemorative beer. These 10 hops and malt filled days highlight a key reason that Seattle has been named one of America's most livable cities: the exceptional beer.

Cheers!
