where craft meets craft

If you’re a maker, or want to be one, there are a couple of BC breweries offering the chance to be crafty while drinking craft beer.

I’m an avid knitter, usually on my own, but welcome the opportunity to connect with other knitters.  Sure, there are lots of stitch and bitch sessions held at my local yarn stores.  But I'm lazy - those local yarn stores aren't in my neighbourhood and I just can't seem to muster the get up and go to leave my house on a dark wintery night.

With a knit night I get to go hang out with other knitters (and crocheters – a skill I do not yet possess), AND drink beer.  It’s the perfect combination of two of my great loves, and a low-key night out!  Plus Strange Fellows and Andina are both quite close to my place.  That combination is all the motivation I need to get out and socialize.

And judging by the ever increasing number of people at Strange Fellows every month, I’m not the only one who has been craving this kind of meet-up.

Vancouver hosts two knit nights:

Knit Nights in Vancouver offers a monthly knitting and crocheting meet up at Strange Fellows Brewing.  The brewery offers a 25% discount on flights and glasses of beer to all who attend.
6:30 – 9:30, bring your own project.
January 28 and February 25, 2020
Andina Brewing hosts EartHand Gleaners Society Tuesday nights for Stitch and KnitSocials.
7:00 – 9:00, bring your own project.
Tuesdays January 14, 21, 28 and February 4, 2020.

Kelowna hosts a craft night:

The first Tuesday of the month Rustic Reel Brewing Company offers its Reel Craft Night.  For $50 you get 2 hours of crafting instruction plus a flight of beers.  It’s a different craft each session.  The February 4th session is print making.
6:00 – 8:00, materials provided for a $50 fee

Past Events:

A-Frame Brewing Co. in Squamish and White Sails Brewing in Nanaimo have both previously offered knit nights.  Maybe it’s time for someone in those locales to start them back up again!

Vancouver Yarn Store Knitting Groups:

Wet Coast Wools – Drop in Knitting - Mondays 7:00 - 9:00 and Thursdays 1:00 - 3:00

Baaad Anna’s Yarn Store – Stitch & Bitch - Wednesdays 6:00 - 8:00

Urban Yarns – Friday night Stitch & Bitch 7:00 – 9:00
