St. Patrick’s Day is tomorrow.  I would like to remind you that there are more traditional ways to celebrate the Irish than by drinking green beer! Life is short!   Drink good beer!   Like a lovely dry Irish stout! One of the most common stouts, Dry Irish Stouts tend to have a bit of a lighter body, which makes them very drinkable!  They're usually a lower carbonation brew and can be served on a nitro system for a creamy mouthfeel.  The bitterness comes from both the roasted barley and the hops, though the roasted malt will be the more noticeable flavour. Guinness is probably the best known example of the style, but you can get some really nice local versions too – see below for a few examples. my notes from yesterday's beer column on cbc radio's on the coast: It’s a new month, so it must be time for another new brewery to open!  Trading Post brewing is juuuust about open in Langley.  The grand opening is February 13th.  You can visit them on 64 th Ave in Langley, close to Willowbrook shopping centre.  The tasting room will have a growler tap, charcuterie pairings and a loft lounge with views of the brewery.  A taphouse and eatery in Fort Langley will follow later this Spring.  R and B Brewing’s new taproom should be open in the next couple of weeks as well, featuring 12 taps, 2 cask engines for beer, and local wine and cider.  And handmade pizzas!  Located at 54 East 4 th Avenue in Vancouver. Because I just can’t say it enough times, lemme tell you what a great time it is to be a craft beer drinker in Vancouver.   Yes, I know I’m always saying that it’s a great time to be a craft beer lover, but it is true!   And it just keeps on getting better. The nay-sayers are predicting that this is a bubble that will eventually burst, and maybe they’re right. But for right now, and the foreseeable future, craft beer is booming, and we’re all the winners.   2015 is a mere four months old, and already we’ve had several new breweries open Province-wide; a couple of breweries have added craft cider to their line-ups; two out of town breweries are opening up brewing spaces in Vancouver; and one of Alberta’s large breweries has opened a Vancouver location – Big Rock Brewing opened an Urban Eatery on West 4 th (coincidently at the corner of Alberta) on April 10th.   Big Rock says that it’ll keep the Vancouver location local by brewing small batches on site f...

my notes from yesterday's beer column on cbc radio's on the coast with stephen quinn (and the link to the audio ): 2014 was an incredible year for craft beer in BC.   So many new breweries opened (21) and none have gone under yet.   I’m not sure 2015 can match that kind of growth, but I do know that three breweries are poised to open in Vancouver in the first three months of 2015. Dogwood Brewing with Claire Wilson at the helm should be opening in the next two weeks at 8284 Sherbrook Street .   Off the Rail Brewing on Adanac Street right across from Bomber Brewing is hoping to open their doors at the beginning of February and Red Truck Brewing’s long awaited tasting room at 295 East 1 st Avenue should be opening March 15 th .
