beernesday

at this week's edition of beernesday i enjoyed the following brews: chuckanut brewing kolsch - 5%  gentle, slightly fruity, complex undertones of malt, refreshing yes, definitely fruity.  i don't much love a kolsch, and am not sure why i keep trying them, but this one was quite nice! skagit brewing english best bitter - 7.5%  a real bitter with malts that are relatively restrained in favor of wide, flat bittering.  a clean, working man's ale.  not prolific, but a smart choice i tried this one because i wanted to know if it was skagit brewing i'm not fond of or just their ipa.  definitely just their ipa.  this bitter was definitely a smart choice! skagit brewing helmet pale ale - 5.5%  brewed extremely pale and distinctly hoppy.  crisp and refreshing this light ale is a classic 'northwestern style' pale ale.  unfiltered and dry-hopped for extra flavor i tried this one because it got me at northwestern style and dry-hopped, and i...

at beernesday last week i decided to begin my evening with a pint of the howe sound gathering storm it seemed appropriate since i'd had the keg at the alibi, the cask at the railway... why not the keg at st. augustine's? and i would have had the cask again at winterfest, but it was acting up by the time i got around to it darned dry hops getting in the spout! i do like this brew and suggest that if you get a chance to try it before its all gone that you do so! after that, i was at a loss of what to try next then i saw that there were 8 ipas on the menu there are 4 glasses in a taster by this point i was still able to do good math and figured out that if i had two samplers i could fit all the ipas into a head to head ipa off! to be fair, i went with the first four on the menu then the second four on the menu saving a sip or two from the winner of round 1 to go against the winner of round 2 however, that's where the science stopped and the subjectivity fully to...

oh lord! i love me a cask

had the cask at railway last night it was the howe sound cascadian dark ale "gathering storm" tried it kegwise at st. augustines and the alibi found it hoppier at both of those so wonder if the keg needed more aging to make them hops come out or if its just one of those things either way, its a thing of beauty and a joy to behold and these types of things make me very happy as does the great company trying these things thank you to everyone who tasted them all with me!! you know you rock, but sometimes you just need to hear it again! i still think the name, cascadian dark ale kinda sucks but i do love me a black ipa!!! hoppy and dark - what a great combination more, more, more please and, looking forward to the central city dry-hopped ipa at the railway next tuesday night!!
