here are my notes from yesterday's craft beer column on cbc radio one's on the coast with gloria macarenko: The Beer News : If you’re heading to the PNE, don’t forget to stop by the VCBW craft beer fest while you’re there.  Open every day of the fair from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., they’re serving up taster sizes of beers from various breweries.  Entry is $10 and tasters are $2 each.  Or catch them for happy hour between 2:00 and 3:00 for half-price entry.  Entry is also just $5 if you return with your tasting mug.  There are in and out privileges, so never fear, you can pop out for that second round of mini donuts, no problem! I think learning more about craft beer should be the second thing on everybody's craft beer to do list... right behind drinking more of it! I was at a tasting room the other evening and the folks beside me were very enthusiastic about their craft beers. It appeared they were on a bit of a brewery crawl, which I very much salute, and were trying to find the words to describe the different beers and how they felt about them. Now I'm not going to go all beer snob on you and say that they were using the wrong words to describe the beers, because there aren't wrong words to describe any experience. a shout out to bc business magazine for their really informative "the business of craft beer" yesterday afternoon jamie floyd killed it in his key-note address joe wiebe was an affable moderator parallel 49, bomber and red truck offered plenty of food for thought in the how to start a brewery panel driftwood, central city and four winds represented in the marketing panel and all the breweries who showed up to pour (ninkasi, red truck, bridge, bomber, parallel 49, central city, driftwood, four winds and prohibition - i don't think i forgot anyone) brought some really swell beers with them i would have liked to mingle and network in a slightly larger space than the imperial but otherwise the event was perfectly executed i suggest all y'all check it out next year!

well, i'm alive and still making it to work every day so vancouver craft beer week has not yet totally kicked my ass or any of my major organs! opening night on friday was a really great event they used the roundhouse to its utmost new breweries were on one side, with the lone cider stall lots of space in the middle for stage and oyster bar and mingling then all the old stand-bys on the other side it was packed, but not so full that it took too long to get a beer or from one side to the other and there were oysters! i made it to the yaletown for a pint after the event... which may or may not have been a good idea! saturday i attended the four winds open house out in the boonies no really, its out somewhere that required bridges and tunnels to get to but the beer was good, we were greeted with a casked fir tip ipa sample, growlers and bostons were already filled so no need to wait for yours, the brewery was open for a tour or just wandering around and checking out...
