legacy liquor store

freshly arrived at legacy liquor store in vancouver: Mikkeller Citra Single Hop IPA - $5.65 Often pushing the boundaries of beer with unique brews, Mikkeller has decided to show off the characteristics of a single hop. Beautiful amber orange in colour with a pithy and fruity aroma, on the palate grapefruit, citrus and malt all play their role and showcase what Citra is all about. An excellent choice for any hop enthusiast. Joel Wilson | Beer Team | Legacy Liquor Store Dead Frog Brewery The Obsidian Dagger - $6.95 Reinvention isn’t easy, but Dead Frog Brewery makes it look like it is with another addition to their stellar line-up of 650ml bottles. Dark roasted malts and tropical hops work in harmony in this black IPA—with hops like centennial and galaxy, and malts including biscuit and chocolate, this is a true powerhouse. beer column

here are my notes from yesterday's beer column on cbc radio one's on the coast As we near the end of November, you may be planning a holiday party. Would you like to make it stand out? How about having a beer and cheese party?  It's pretty easy to make your party the talk of the season! Beer and cheese go together like chocolate and peanut butter! If you have ever hosted a wine and cheese party, putting together a beer and cheese party is just as straight-forward. I know wine lovers will hate me for saying so, but beer is actually a better pairing for cheese than wine is! The hops in beer, along with the carbonation, cleanse the palate between bites so you can enjoy the full flavour profile of each different food you nibble on. Also both beer and cheese have a similar origin, grass. Barley is a cereal grass used in making beer and milk is a by-product of a cow eating grass. As a result, beer and cheese complement each other by sharing some common c...

i'm back, i'm tanned and i'm off to a superbowl party! found a great craft beer spot in playa del carmen plenty more to come about that and all the beers i got to try but not today... all i have for you today is this from elysian about their upcoming ipa offerings: MANIC IPA SPECIALTY SERIES  We are Hopping into 2012 with an Exciting New Line-up of IPAs So many IPAs, so little time... Elysian Brewing Company is kicking it's Manic IPA Series in February of 2012 with Idiot Sauvin, an IPA both fiercely fruity and floral, made with New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops. The beer has appeared before only at Elysian's pubs, and will be issued in both 22 oz bottles and draft.  Then in June will come Prometheus, anaggressively aromatic blend of Northwest classic Chinook, Cascade, Centennial and Amarillo hops fondly familiar to Elysian regulars.   Rounding out the year will be Valhalla, a reddish fall-into-holiday IPA using Sorachi Ace and Citra hops, scheduled for re...

cask nights

Image
last thursday at the yaletown brewpub the cask was stout dry-hopped with sorachi ace i wasn't too sure about dry-hopping a stout, but you know what! what? the sorachi ace worked like a charm in the stout not a citrusy hop, it lent some bitterness and depth of flavour to the stout bravo, i say, bravo! last night at the railway club it was an r&b cask of mint and cucumber ipa let me begin by saying that i hate cucumber not just dislike, its a burning passionate hatred i love pickles, i hate cucumber, i am large, i contain contradictions others may find the cuke innocuous, but i can smell it a mile off and be driven into a homicidal rage however, i did try the cask i love an ipa, i like mint... maybe i could get over the cucumber part? alas, the murky brew smelled too much like cucumber for me to even consider more than a few sips the mint was nice though... everyone else appreciated it... i'm just a cuke hater okay?  geesh!

cask nights

managed to hit a couple of cask nights this week very much enjoyed the elysian idiot sauvin ipa at granville room on monday night methinks that it must have been a very potent brew as my coordination rapidly failed after just two pints but really, isn't coordination highly overrated? hoppy and delicious and apparently the first cask to do some blowing up real good upon tapping at the granville room the railway is not so lucky they get some good spray most days out of their casks including the r&b dry-hopped pale ale i had on tuesday night nice, but didn't tempt us to have a second instead we ran off to rogue wetbar because we knew the twitter code of the day to get a free drink woohoo, free tiki drink! in a fabulous tiki glass! wednesday saw me taking the night off from casking a girl has to do other things some times you know! last night yaletown had its nagila pale ale on cask, dry-hopped with sorachi ace i do love me the sorachi ace!

cask

well, for a not-so-beery week, i still managed to knock a few back! wednesday night i hit pivo before and between queer film festival movies had me the phillips hop circle thursday night before the centrepiece queer film festival movie i managed to swing by yaletown brewpub for some of iain hill's ipa dry-hopped with sorachi ace i am not sure there are words to describe it besides hop heaven!! delicious! delightful! divine! the hop nose carried through to the body i would have happily taken a growler to go if i had any time to get through one this weekend! if i could be more than one place tonight i would be at both pivo for their second anniversary and at beerlesque at the roundhouse but i can't be at both, so i'll be doing my duty to my fellow craft beer lovers by pouring libations at beerlesque!
