i had a taster of the dead frog fearless ipa at the craft beer market open house a couple of weeks back but as i had that sample after i'd had several others, i really can't say more about it than i liked it from dead frog: Hello! it would appear that the yanks beat out the scots on the first (british) leg of the international arms race zero ibu ipa-off between flying dog and brew dog (i say apparently because i have only seen the flying dog version thus far... and knowing these two breweries, there may be a contradictory story coming from brew dog any minute now!) Flying Dog Brewmaster Matt Brophy posted the above photo on Facebook moments after winning the International Arms Race. never did learn the periodic table in high school due to having to drop science over that whole dissecting animals thing but always enjoyed the concept of it and riffs on it (like the sexiodic table t-shirt i own)

stacy picked us up some hopworks' ace of spades the other day she was worried that at $15 a bottle the store wouldn't want to bring many bottles in and if they didn't sell that we'd be stuck having to buy them all never fear! this is the good stuff - people like it and people will buy it!! in fact, they have to order more now because they sold all the previous stock what did she think of it when she finally tasted it? 2,500 ibus is that even possible??? i dunno, i'm not a science person, but ontario claims it has brewed a 2,500 ibu beer oh ontario, always gotta be the biggest and best a gimmick?  probably do i want to try it?  of course! and frankly i hadn't heard of flying monkeys brewery until this so if its a publicity stunt, it worked on me!

from the camra vancouver newsletter: Tofino Brewing Company opened their doors to the public on Saturday April 16th, selling growlers of their first beer, Tuff Session Ale, a west coast style pale ale. Tofino Brewing brewmaster Dave Woodward (formerly of Brew House at Whistler), writes in to say the local response has been overwhelming, with Tofino residents consuming more than 300 growlers over the past week in addition to Tofino draught accounts. Hoppin Cretin IPA, Dave's next beer, will be on sale at the brewery this week. Dave describes this as a northwest IPA, well hopped with Columbus, Centennial, and Citra. 6.5%, 60 IBUs. Here's hoping we see some of this on our side of the Strait!

i love the dead frog citra ipa yes, oh yes i do! it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside just like a good hoppy beer should and for that i am eternally grateful! i have had this elixir on tap at places like st. augustine's and purchased the big ole bottles from specialty beer stores and i like it all! the bottle says: 6.5% dead frog citra ipa is a high hopped, high alcohol, high bitterness true ipa that is like an invigorating open handed slap of citrus awesomeness!!! you hold in your hands the pinnacle of brewing innovation.  beermaster series is a harmonious combination of premium quality beer and ingenious flavour design.  we bestow upon you the finest beer in the universe!  cheers! i'm bummed that it is only a limited release but i guess they sure did leave me wanting more! and i hear that maybe, just maybe it will be popular enough to make it into regular rotation is my love strong enough?? for the brewed awakening story on the citra ipa, click he...

and the final installment in my foray into lagunitas ipas,  the hop stoopid! practically jumped out of the bottle huge head on the vigourous pour very pale in the glass, and a little cloudy enormous hop nose 102 ibus big hop flavour that keeps on giving 102 ibus think that's enough for you? it sure works for me! i'd drink it again! on the bottle:  ""give it to mikey... he'll drink anything..!"  up the bomber went in toast, then to his lips, and what happened next could not have been foreseen.  hop stoopid, a slick re-animator green fluid oozed from the bottle.  when it crossed his teeth and came in contact with the bitterness flavor receptors on his tongue, his eyes rolled back in his head, he did a sort of death ratter, a cloud crossed the sun, and all his hair fell out.  a spot on the side of his cheek blistered and a little bit of juice squirted out laterally starting a small fire.  the rest of his head did the indiana jones melting ...

got to try half pint 's little scrapper ipa at st. augustine's the other week its very sedimenty - guess that's what happens with a dry-hopped unfiltered beer! it looks quite pretty though, the sediment hanging throughout the glass like constellations in the night sky light caramel colour, almost yellow 50 ibus 6% amarillo and cascade hops tastes delightful nice hop bitterness balanced with a malty finish i could make this a session beer very easily!
