Moylan's Moylander Double IPA
i love a double ipa. no, i really love a double ipa, like a lot.
tonight's tipple is Moylan's Moylander double ipa. a delightfully potent brew out of california.
its a live ale, which to me meant that it pulled an iceland volcanic action when i popped the top (i am sheepishly proud to report that i chipped my tooth on the bottle trying to save every drop of this delicious nectar). it stayed hazy in the glass during the entire tasting of almost all 650 mLs, but also remaining to the bitter hoppy end was the head. ah, live yeast!
the bottle says: "If One is Good, Then Two is Better! Our Moylander Double IPA is fat and resiny, with aggressive and excessive hops swinging on an enormous malt backbone like naughty monkeys on a vine. Double malt, double hops - do the math, its academic. This brew has twice the things you're looking for, and its big enough to share with the one you love. And isn't that what it's all about?"
fat, and phat - this brew rocks! oh yeah, and its 8.5% - heeheehee!
and their phone number is 415-898-HOPS. gotta love it!
the label features more awards than i can quote. okay, not more than i can quote, but more than my poor fingers feel like typing, so suffice it to say that its award-winning beer.
from the website: "Moylan's Brewery & Restaurant, Novato's only brewpub, was $3.5 million project that has established a strong following among North Marin's beer connoisseurs. Moylan's features a 57 foot long bar, a dart room with a fireplace and a reading library featuring brewing books and magazines from Brendan's personal collection. ... "Prohibition in this country ended our brewing tradition," Moyland explained. "Budweiser and a few others moved in fast and captured many of the larger markets. Now we're entering into a new phase of beer brewing. I think you'll continue to see it grow.""
i think i really like this brendan moylan guy, and i need to visit his brewpub, which i'm thinking must be very close to san francisco as it shares the same area code, and that puts it on my west coast travel path... oh yeah, and i really want to try the "hoppsickle" which is touted by its brewer to be the hoppiest beer on earth!
