here are my notes from yesterday's beer column on cbc radio one's on the coast with stephen quinn: The Beer News: Another tasting room is about to open - Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks in Richmond has been up and running, producing beer since December, and very soon you’ll be able to stop by for tasters and growler fills - the tasting room is expected to open in the next week or two. Their motto is “keeping beer weird”! Fuggles and Warlock push the boundaries of traditional style beers - you may have tried their adventurous beers before as they have been brewing out of various other facilities over the past couple of years, and have beer available on tap and at the liquor store. as my self-imposed month of cleansing comes to a close i have some thoughts on trying to be a beer person and live without beer for 31 days first off, let me admit that i didn't make it to 31 days i chose to have drinks on the 14th and the 15th, then tried to go back on the wagon for the rest of the month but alas, once you open that darned pandora's box, it's soooo darned easy to find another good reason to drink! my motives for drinking on the 14th and 15th were pure the ones since then have not been on the 14th i went to an about-to-open brewery and tried a sample of each of their beers this was an opportunity that i didn't feel i could miss out on that i would be cutting off my nose to spite my face if i was to be stubborn and refuse the time-sensitive offer just because it was january i had quite a bit of internal debate about the matter it was not an easy decision to make in the end, i went with my gut and drank the beers two weeks later, i have no ...

yaletown brewpub's cask festival was good times so many good beers so many fun people to drink with   my favourite beer of the afternoon? pretty hard to choose as there were so many good ones but since you're making me choose, i'll go with the central city collaboration cask with gigantic, parallel 49 and ninkasi imperial ipa - some matured in cognac barrels, some matured in bourbon barrels, then blended and dry-hopped so very, very, very, very delicious (see how i did that four verys there?)

let me just begin by saying that harrison beer fest is adorable! harrison is a lovely little place and its beer festival is an equally lovely little thing caveat:  tourism harrison paid for my hotel for two nights and entry for me and my guest to all three harrison beer fest events.  i'm not gonna lie to you about my impressions of the fest, but i may be mildly swayed by the sheer joy of getting away for a mostly-free beer weekend! traffic was fairly kind to us, but we still didn't hit town until around 7 p.m. so we were at st. alice hall about an hour after the casks had been tapped and the night was in full swing the event was sold out because they wisely kept the numbers low to ensure that attendees got their beer's worth; the hall was full but by no means packed my first impression was that this is a very different festival than i'm used to people were sitting down, the noise level was fairly low and no one was drunk and that impression lasted for abo...

and i am now mere hours away from cask night at the harrison beer fest i hope traffic is kind to me!

i am two days away from a beer weekend in sunny harrison hot springs ! my oktoberfest outfit is packed already... the lovely folks at tourism harrison are putting me up in a hotel for the weekend so that i can enjoy all the fun (and craft beer!) that the harrison beer fest has to offer this will be my first time at the harrison beer fest and i'm very much looking forward to it! my fingers are crossed that the weather forecast of sunny and 17 C comes to pass (wish i was there today enjoying the sunny and 20C afternoon) for a couple of reviews of last year's inaugural fest, clicky on the linkys below for what i think of this year's sophomore fest, check back here saturday and sunday! - tourism harrison blog - the agassiz observer

the cask last night at the yaletown brewpub was saison word on the street is that it was amazing me, i filled my boot with ipa no really, i bought the gumboot salute boot and filled it twice with ipa even though it was cask night even though it was stout day that's just how i roll okay? (then i went out for fancy dinner and drank prosecco cuz i'm fancy like that!) tomorrow, i will be pouring at the yaletown for their mini caskival 11 casks its gonna be fun! come on down, starting at 11:00 try all 11 casks for $20 or just a few for $2 each if you already have a boot, bring it and get your first fill free if you don't already have a boot, get one for $10 filled and $4.50 re-fills yup, its a great deal so, i'll see you there, right!?! here's what their facebook page says: As part of our now famous "Gumboot Salute" long weekend, here at the Yaletown Brewing Company, we are throwing a little cask event this Saturday!
