i love pairing art with craft in whatever way you want to take that statement so my heart started to swell when i saw that victory and dogfish head are having a night of art (paintings, sculpture etc.) and craft (beer) here's the beer wench with the details

there is just so much right with the concept of a swig n stitch ! it makes my little crafty heart happy now if only there was one in vancouver... wait, just because i haven't heard of it doesn't mean it isn't happening... if anyone hears of anything along these lines please tell me i have zero spare time, but for a swig n stitch i think i could find some!

last week`s cask... served a little too cold on the tapping the further we got into our potent little glasses the more the whiskey made itself known warm for sure, to much alcohol, i didn't think so i had a dinner to get to right afterwards so i tried to be prudent and only have the one glass prudent or not, that one glass went right to my head! and in honour of the play-offs to begin the next night, railway staffers got creative and built their own arena, fully equipped with jumbo-tron as well! i love crafts! if my plans do not go ahead tonight, i am intrigued to try the r&b agave cactus wheat ale on tap this week

i beer geeked it up with the vancouver home brewers at their meeting on march 31st i had no idea there was another room at the legion on commercial drive apparently its where the scribes rugby club hides out who knew??? the way to the secret room... while i'm not a homebrewer, i do intend to be one someday soon so i thought i'd best check out the resources around me a lot of the presentation at the meeting (roasting your 2 row malt) went over my head but its great to know there are so many homebrewers around who i can reach out and abuse when i do get around to brewing my own!

so, you takes your chicken and you dress it like usual then you stand the chicken up with a half full can of beer in its cavity - with steam holes punched above the liquid line then you creatively prop the chicken up on the bbq marveling at your handiwork the entire time when its burnt to a crisp, or about 50 minutes later, you proudly bring it to your friends checking first of course to make sure the meat isn't pink and everyone cheers for you because you rock! check out that steaming cavity! the art show was yesterday (artful sunday at britannia community centre) i managed to sell a couple of the hops pillow sachets and gave two to friends who made larger purchases of my other wares from me i'm hoping to hear back from them about whether or not the hops as a soporific works i really hope it does...

okay, confession time in addition to being a beer geek i am also a sewing geek my two loves are two crafts! and what could better combine my two loves than sewing something beery? but besides a beer cozy, what could i possibly sew that's beery? well, i'm glad you asked! i made hops pillow sachets! (say what?) little cotton sachets that look like pillows, but instead of stuffing, they contain hops pellets. hops are an old folk remedy for insomnia so i figured i'd make little pillows full of hops for the insomniacs to sniff when they're having trouble sleeping. i will be selling my lovely little hops pillow sachets at britannia community centre's "artful sunday" this very sunday! i began by sewing plain white squares, 3" x 3" then stuffed them with hops pellets i put each hops pillow into a "pillowcase" and top-stitched around the edges and approximately one inch in from the edge to create a pillow effect come one, ...

had many a beer with the regular suspects at st. augustine's the other night. still love how many taps they have, and all the delightful craft beers to choose from but... and you knew there had to be a but!  the service there is not up to snuff.  yes, we were a larger group, and there were several other large groups there, but i still feel that if you have the capacity to seat all of us, you should have the staff available to serve all of us in a timely fashion.  jackie's food came before her beer for crying out loud! there was a run on sampler glasses later in the night and this adversely affected how quickly the beers were coming.  but even before the glass shortage there was slow service on the beer front.  shame, really. will i go back?  of course i will!  i love the choice, the sampler option and the food. i just want faster service, that's all! i went with two samplers to try all the beers i hadn't yet tasted, and then switched to pints...
