these are my notes from yesterday's beer column on cbc radio's on the coast topic:  the health benefits of beer its February now, new year's resolutions probably abandoned, but all is not lost, there's still beer and it can actually be good for you! this time of the year can be particularly hard with the grey and rainy vancouver weather. summer seems like it will never come, resolutions to lose weight and eat better are proving hard to keep... good thing that something you're already doing is good for you! we're not doctors here, so this is not medical advice that said, drink beer! its good for you! beer drinking often gets a bad reputation - beer bellies, drunken frat boys, career limiting moves. this is unfortunate because there are many health benefits that come with beer. some are undisputed and don't change with the quantity of beer you drink alas others you can only get through moderate drinking we all remember the old advice guinness used...

Zesty citrus and tropical fruits on the nose and more of the same with a touch of malt on the palate. Pick up a bottle and put a little Kiwi in you. Epic Epicurean Coffee & Fig - $22.55 Another brew from the boys at Epic inspired by all the creatives out there: dark chocolate, molasses and fig account for the nose, with black liquorice, coffee, fig, vanilla and so much more making up the palate. okay, this almost makes me wish i had television: dogfish head founder sam calagione has a tv show coming out on discovery channel in january he'll be travelling to breweries to meet the brewers and discuss regionality apparently he told beer advocate that he'll be visiting allagash, stone, victory, russion river, sierra nevada and epic in new zealand i also wanna see inside dogfish as they come up with new recipes... too bad downloading is illegal... beer advocate quotes calagione as saying "beer has always been my passion.  it is so much more than what you see in the glass.  i'm excited to share the diligence, daring and creativity that we pour into our work.  i'm confident that discovery and this show are going to turn a lot more people on to the work of the amazing craft brewers around the world.  i think that will be great for our whole community."
