my notes from yesterday's beer column on cbc radio one's on the coast with stephen quinn: If you can’t make it to Munich for the famous Oktoberfest, being held right now, never fear – there are several smaller versions taking place right here at home!  Harvest Haus  begins on Thursday.  Ooom-pah, sausages and pretzels, and of course, lots of beer await you at the Queen Elizabeth plaza.  Running Thursday, Friday and Saturday this weekend, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday of next, you can enjoy sword-play and dancing, and cheersing with ceramic steins. Darby’s Gastown is celebrating Oktoberfest on October 2 nd from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.  They’re pairing four beer styles, dunkel, marzen, alt and hefeweizen with German fare of pretzels and sausages.  No tickets required, just show up and enjoy. Port Moody’s Oktoberfest runs from September 29 th to October 2 nd and the 6 th to the 9 th at 100 Newport Way.  There will be beer, pretzels, saus...

here are my notes from yesterday's craft beer column on cbc radio one's on the coast with gloria macarenko: The Beer News : If you’re heading to the PNE, don’t forget to stop by the VCBW craft beer fest while you’re there.  Open every day of the fair from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., they’re serving up taster sizes of beers from various breweries.  Entry is $10 and tasters are $2 each.  Or catch them for happy hour between 2:00 and 3:00 for half-price entry.  Entry is also just $5 if you return with your tasting mug.  There are in and out privileges, so never fear, you can pop out for that second round of mini donuts, no problem! One of the breweries pouring at the craft beer fest right now is Highway 97.  They’re not even open yet, so take advantage of this opportunity for an advance tasting of the Penticton brewery’s beer, and save yourself the long drive as well!  To see all the beers that are pouring, check out @vcbw on twitter. Have you be...

camra vancouver news

from camra vancouver's lasted newsletter: There used to be a time when craft beer enthusiasts in Vancouver would celebrate every time Nigel switched up the tap list. But the list began to change so frequently, we decided to give our livers a break and only celebrate the big numbers. Well, it's that time again. In a few more weeks it's going to be the Alibi Room's 300th beer list! On December 12, 13, and 14, the Alibi Room will be serving some special beers in a 10oz glass for $3. It's first come first serve, and the fun starts each day at 3pm. The wait is almost over. Russell Brewing and Storm Brewing's Collaboration Brew, The Big Smoke will be debuting Sunday December 4th at The Whip. The cask will tap at 4pm, and bottles of this smoky, wee heavy style ale will be available at select independent liquor stores. If you're excited about all the changes Trevor Kallies has made to many of the Donnelly Group locations, you have something to look forward to...
