Vancouver Island's Gladstone Brewing Co. makes its Vancouver Debut VANCOUVER, BC – After six months of serving up West-Coast and Belgian-inspired brews to Vancouver Island's Comox Valley, Gladstone Brewing Co. is headed to Vancouver for the first time to showcase its award winning beer with a tap takeover at Commercial Drive's Tangent Cafe on Wednesday August 26, 6pm. Gladstone Brewing Co. is one of Vancouver Island's newest breweries and is headed up by owner Daniel Sharratt and head brewer John Adair (formerly of Parallel 49 Brewing). Adair's Porter recently took home bronze at the Canadian Brewing Awards. The tap takeover at Tangent Cafe will include six Gladstone beers: Belgian Single, North American Porter, West Coast IPA, Pilsener, and two new, yet-to-be released seasonals – a Saison and a Kettle Sour. The 20,000 litre capacity brewery started out with just 4,000 litre production in January 2015, but has quickly grown in the first six months...

i love the opportunity to try out a new place so while i was being a lady who lunches last week i used a 20% off coupon i had and tried out cinema (owned by the donnelly group, located at the corner of granville and smithe in vancouver) it took forever for my sandwich and salad to arrive but when it finally did, omg, divine! roasted veggies, goat cheese and pesto - yay side salad of walnuts, craisins, more goat and vinaigrette - more yay but really, the important part the beer list! donnelly group, i'm impressed! the bottles the draught i hope when i hit library square for 80's night that i can look forward to a similar beer list there as well!

perhaps you are wondering "just what is beernesday?" quite simple really beernesday is the brain child of bridget and i it is the reason we give our friends for getting off the couch in the horrible winter months and coming out to hang with their buddies every wednesday from late september until softball season, we gather at a local watering hole and drink beer together beer on wednesdays why that makes them beernesdays and there you have it the last two years we've been hosting our beernesday gatherings at avanti's pub this year we are moving the party to st. augustine's still on commercial drive, but i'm hoping to improve on everyone's gastronomical delight by offering them 40 beers to choose from, and a great food menu this also works very well for me as i will be at st. augustine's on a weekly basis and should be able to more easily keep up with all their rotating tap goodness! i want to sample everything! tonight's the first ...

i am turning into quite the beer snob! drinking craft beer has made me not want to drink anything but the best which is making it hard to visit many of my old haunts and me less likely to be enthusiastic about trying some new places their beer lists just aren't inspiring so, my snobbery aside, how hard is it to bring in one or two local craft brews? it shouldn't be that hard... and it would please me to no end! i'm tired of granville island and okanagan springs being my only two "local" choices and corona and stella being the "imports" sadly, this critique extends to several pubs who pride themselves on having several taps as well but how inspiring is a choice of local taps that only include granville island, big rock, sleeman, okanagan springs and keith's?  i.e. the charlatan:  "Located in the heart of Vancouver's Commercial Drive, The Charlatan, is the areas best Gastro-Pub. patron saint of beer, and venue for my birthday bash just past! located on commercial drive, this spacious beer and sports bar features more than 40 taps - yes more than 40!  most of those 40 are their staple offerings, but they do have a list of seasonal offerings and bottled beer too. they were very able to accommodate a large group of us (any night but canucks or fight night) and by all accounts the burgers are to die for (my vegetarianism gets in the way of me personally confirming that fact).  monday nights are cask nights, and every night they offer tasters of four beers for $8. love the direction they are taking their decor (this is a mash tun isn't it?) on the downside, service was not as quick as one might have hoped and the bathrooms are not fabulous.  otherwise, you better believe i'm recommending the place!  and going to make it my regular watering hole. bring on the casks, bring on the good times!
