rogue in richmond

Image
the beerthirst rogue tour de richmond was a whole lotta fun! the concept alone guaranteed a good time:  rogue beers paired with a sandwich at every stop with a school bus to get you from pub a to pub b (c, d and e) first stop:  hogshack beer:  st. rogue red ale sandwich:  sliders with kimchi and spicy carrots (my veggie option was a beet and quinoa patty) pairing:  it worked, the spicy toppings with the rich red ale worked like a charm - the judges chose this as the best pairing the meat slider (and beer) the awesome veggie slider  second stop:  buck and ear beer:  cpt. sig's northwest pale ale food:  halibut, prawn and shrimp tacos with mango salsa, fried potatoes pairing:  to be honest, i was so much all about the amazing flavours bursting in my mouth while eating the taco that i forgot to drink my beer with it, but this pairing won the people's choice, so it musta pleased people!  damned delicious fis...

tin whistle and half pints

Image
last night i needed nachos it was imperative that i have some and who does better nachos on the drive than st. augustine's? no one! and what goes down better with nachos than ipa? nothing! so i had a tin whistle scorpion double ipa for double the fun 8% - "loaded with citra hops and a huge malt backbone. brewed in small batches" they weren't kidding about that huge malt backbone it was teetering awfully close to the 'too much' precipice i could have used a little less but then i do like my ipas bitter(er) darker in colour, dense head, clear as the day is long its a fine beer for sure its not going to crack my top ten list though and... i'll be making a brief appearance at st. augustine's again this evening its the beerthirst half pints re-launch in bc i hear there will be swag as well as good beer!

beer thirst

from the beer thirst newsletter: So believe it or not, summer is almost over. Luckily, the Great Canadian Beer Festival is this weekend, which will be plenty of craft beer fun under the sun. But before you head out to Victoria for 2 days of craft beer madness, you're gonna need a little "warm up." So instead of scaring the s@%t out of your liver on Friday, ease your way into GCBF. Join us the night before at St. Augustine's for the Half Pints relaunch party on Thursday September 6th ! The party starts at 6pm, and St. Augustine's will be serving the Humulus Ludicrous, Little Scraper IPA, and Noche De Los Alebrijes. Half Pints co-owner, Nicole Barry, will be in attendance, and we'll be giving away plenty of Half Pints swag! The first 7 people to order a Half Pints beer and tell the server "Together We Can Fight The Evil Spread Of Lite Beer" will win a Half Pints shirt or a $50 Gift Certificate to St. Augustine's! For those of you who don'...

link love

stone's ruination ipa 10th anniversary parallel 49 - vancouver's newest brewery and this interesting news from beerthirst: For years we've been saying that it's an acquired taste. That the floral, piney, bitter, fruity goodness of an IPA is an acquired taste, and that most people probably won't enjoy it. Well, perhaps we were wrong all along. People everywhere are falling in love with this exotic style of beer, and more and more establishments are beginning to serve IPAs. And as of May 27th, so did the Cactus Club Cafe . Yes! The Immortal IPA by Elysian Brewing is now available at 6 different locations! Cactus Club on English Bay, Burrard, Yaletown, Broadway and Ash, Granville and Broadway, and South Point in White Rock, all serve the Immortal IPA on draft. We are very thrilled for obvious reasons, but we're also excited because an establishment like Cactus Club to be on board to serve a Pacific Northwest-style IPA shows how far the craft beer indust...

camra vancouver

from the camra vancouver newsletter: Hello everyone, 2011 is coming to a close in a few days, but what a great year it's been for craft beer and real ale in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland! More and more liquor stores, pubs, and restaurants are beginning to carry a wide selection of craft beer, and it's even creating quite the buzz in the mainstream. It's not just beer bloggers typing away about the great beers in BC because we saw business magazines, to major newspapers, etc publish plenty of articles about the local craft beer scene. Vancouver Craft Beer Week was jam packed with events this year, and we even had BC Craft Beer Month! Last but not least there's been some great collaborations between brewers and breweries as well. As far as real ale goes, this year we saw more establishments on board with the weekly/monthly cask program. But what's really exciting is that we now have 6 different restaurants that serve real ale on a daily basis! This year The Wh...

Image
new belgium ales are now available on tap at st. augustine's the fat tire amber and the ranger ipa (that's actually the ranger ipa in the fat tire glass) as i'd had the fat tire on several previous visits to the u.s., i went for the ranger ipa okay, and also because i love me an ipa! delicious! i hope it becomes a regular feature of the st. augustine's beer rotation "They protect. They pour. They partake. They are the many and the only New Belgium Beer Rangers. We salute their efforts in the field with the extra-hopinary Ranger IPA. Three pounds per barrel of Simcoe, Chinook and Cascade hops make this 70 IBU brew a thing of beauty. Seek out the Beer Ranger in your territory at newbelgium.com." i want to be a ranger! the beerthirst guys were on hand to launch this first for vancouver and brought with them glasses, coasters and the ranger himself! beerthirst also brought in a few bottles of some other new belgium flavours for people to try las...
