Beer News : A-Frame Brewing is now open in Squamish.   They’re open Wednesday through Sunday and have an opening line up of: Okanagan Lake Cream Ale, Magic Lake Porter, Elfin Lakes Belgian Ale and Sproat Lake Dry Hopped Pale Ale.   I’m noticing a theme in their beer names... my notes from yesterday's beer column on cbc radio's on the coast with stephen quinn: Coralee Oakes, the BC Minister of Small Business and Red Tape Reduction announced last week that as of November 30th government liquor stores will be able to carry up to twelve local craft beers that are non-listed.  Being non-listed means that the products are not otherwise available at the government stores. The new program is timed to coincide with BC Buy Local Week.   Buy Local Week is "an annual celebration of local business to promote the contributions that BC businesses make to our economy and our communities".  Craft breweries definitely fit that bill - they're contributing more and more to local economies and are changing the face of neighbourhoods, so you can't fault the Ministry on their timing! St. Patrick’s day is approaching.   Can I tempt you to drink something other than green beer? I mean hey, if you're really into green beer, then by all means, drink up.  I hear they'll be serving it at the Blarney Stone. For me though,  food colouring added to beer doesn’t enhance my drinking experience, especially as it is generally added to macro lagers.   I would rather drink flavourful beer!   I find the idea of “drowning the shamrock” for luck, where a clover is added to beer or whisky and the whole thing downed, shamrock and all, a lot more palatable way to put some green in my beer to celebrate the day. i have been preparing all week for a beer tasting that goes at 4:30 today (wish me luck!) my office is holding it as a kick-off to the annual united way fundraising campaign and i gotta say, when planning a beer tasting, it's great to have minions! all i had to do for the tasting was pick the beers and do a presentation about them benton brothers did all the cheese and charcuterie pairings for me, the committee ordered the beer, the tables, the food and sent out the invitations leaving me to focus on the beers and coming up with tasting notes and information about each i am doing a very basic guided tasting of five beers, paired with cheese and charcuterie followed by a self-led tasting (with provided tasting notes) rounding out the evening for the guided tasting i am aiming to do a basic introduction to beer styles the method of tasting beer (appearance, aroma, taste, mouthfeel) and the basics of pairing food with these beers i have chosen to go with five ...
