i am very behind on posting reviews and tasting notes and i have no real excuse besides i don't wanna spend all my time on-line i wanna read six more books and meet the 50 book challenge oh, and i'd rather be out drinking the beer! october 5, 2011 rogue john john hazelnut - 5.6% ale with natural hazelnut flavor aged in hazelnut spice rum barrels blech, rum barrels! i thought i'd had this before (last year) but i don't remember booze in it, just nuttiness.  too boozey for me whistler valley trail chestnut ale - 6% dark amber colour with a tan-coloured head.  notes of chestnut, caramel and vanilla too much darned vanilla for my liking - why does everyone gotta put in vanilla?  too sweet, not nutty enough!  a vanilla hazelnut latte - not a chestnut beer dammit! storm imperial flanders red ale - 11% this full bodied monster of a sour has been aged in an oak barrel for a year oak, sure... but i'm getting a whole lotta vinegar.  i do love a sour and it did...

Our Beer, Our Barrels, Our Johns. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWPORT, OR, December 17, 2010- In a collaboration of crafts, Rogue Brewmaster John Maier and Rogue Spirits Master Distiller John Couchot have joined forces to create a distinct, innovative series of brews called John John Ales. The series will take Rogue Ales legends and age them in Rogue Spirits barrels. The first of the John John series is John John Dead Guy Ale, Rogue's award winning Dead Guy Ale matured in Rogue's award winning Dead Guy Whiskey barrels. The cross collaboration of these two products starts with the distilling of Dead Guy Ale wort to create the Dead Guy Whiskey. The Whiskey is aged in Oak Barrels and bottled, then the Oak Barrels are taken from the distillery, by forklift, across the parking lot to the Brewery where they are filled with Dead Guy Ale and matured for three months. over my last two visits to st. augustine's i tried seven beers in my samplers i've already blogged about the total eclipse of the hops and pumpkineater by howe sound the other beers i tried in my samplers are: - red truck's limited steam beer:  a hybrid beer style brewing using ale yeast fermented at lager temperatures. the result is a full flavoured, yet surprisingly crisp beer.  5% - driftwood brewery farmhand ale:  southern-belgian farmhouse ale uses a partial sour-mash and the addition of freshly ground black.  a unique strain of yeast from belgium adds further layers of complexity to this rare style. 5% - rogue ales john john hazelnut: a nutty twist to a traditional european brown ale.  dark brown in color with a hazelnut aroma, a rich nutty flavor and a malty finish. 5.6% - russell brewing's wee angry scotch:  a malty scotch ale with canadian two-row, crystal, chocolate and a touch of peated malt, and lightly hopped with willamette. 6.5% - cra...
