i had a taster of the dead frog fearless ipa at the craft beer market open house a couple of weeks back but as i had that sample after i'd had several others, i really can't say more about it than i liked it from dead frog: Hello! i had a lovely weekend in seattle a weekend is never long enough so there wasn't a whole lot of beer tourism on my part but i got in as much as i could! saturday: pike brewing: i was looking for breakfast at 11:00 but they just have a lunch and dinner menu so i made do with a pretzel and xxxxx stout mustard, with a cup of their crab chowder which were quite delightful - yay oyster crackers! (deschutes' pretzel is better though...) i started with the seasonal space needle ipa pike beat out the competition to win the rights to brew the beer for the space needle's 50th anniversary dry-hopped to heck, it features centennial, cascade, columbus, chinook and summit shockingly enough for seattle the sun disappeared and it started to torentially downpour what else to do but stay and have a few more beers?? next up, the imperial ipa which at 8% is served in a 12oz pour the space needle ipa is supposed to be golden, but i didn't really see a colour...

from camra vancouver: Tonight is Sunset Grill's first weekly cask! They've got a cask of Driftwood Brewery Blackstone Porter. 6pm. Thursday means Yaletown Brewing is Making It Real (Ale). They will tap a cask of BRick and Beam IPA with Columbus hops, 4pm. me, i'll be at the yaletown as usual! but that blackstone porter in the cask is very delicious stuff - try some if you have the chance! and a party tomorrow: Pivo's Christmas Party is tomorrow at 6pm. just in time for ipa day, i drank a hoppy bitch! from trade route brewing  of pacific washington she's only 60 ibus according to the bottle and very nicely balanced but yes, she is a hoppy bitch! website says: This northwest IPA is bold and balanced, with a rich malty flavor and a strong hop presence. We use premium 2-Row, Crystal, Munich and Victory malts to create the perfect base for showcasing Yakima-grown Columbus hops. After one sip you’ll agree, this is one hoppy bitch of a beer. 6.3% ABV 80 IBU amanda and sarah brought this one back for me from washington because they love me and because they rock!!   i liked it its not a hop monster, so you could probably taste another beer after this one! its not going to make my top ten list but i would definitely and quite happily have this one again

from the camra vancouver newsletter: Tofino Brewing Company opened their doors to the public on Saturday April 16th, selling growlers of their first beer, Tuff Session Ale, a west coast style pale ale. Tofino Brewing brewmaster Dave Woodward (formerly of Brew House at Whistler), writes in to say the local response has been overwhelming, with Tofino residents consuming more than 300 growlers over the past week in addition to Tofino draught accounts. Hoppin Cretin IPA, Dave's next beer, will be on sale at the brewery this week. Dave describes this as a northwest IPA, well hopped with Columbus, Centennial, and Citra. 6.5%, 60 IBUs. Here's hoping we see some of this on our side of the Strait!

pike brewing's pike ipa is next up for a tasting i love a tasting! fairly leapt out of the bottle when i popped the top but the head settled quite quickly into a manageable half inch of creaminess cloudy on the vigourous pour not a lot of nose 60 ibus 6.3% first sip is very malty so is the second and the aftertaste the bottle says nothing... the website says: og 1.062 malt varieties:  pale, crystal, munich, carapils hops varieties:  columbus, willamette, chinook, goldings, amarillo color:  amber yeast:  english ale flavor profile:  powerful malt backbone is balanced with aromatic herbal hop character history:  highly hopped to retain freshness on the voyages from england to india (not so impressed by their website actually...) definitely a more malty brew than i've been craving lately but the further i get into it, the more i'm enjoying the maltiness contrasting with the hoppiness not gonna become my favourite, but i'm not gonn...

last night's tipple is one i've been tilting back fairly often these days and its my new favourite ipa yes, i have declared a current favourite! green flash brewing co.'s west coast india pale ale 7.3%, 95 ibus, "extravagantly hopped" boy, they're not lying! the bottle says "A menagerie of hops are layered throughout the brewing process.  Simcoe for unique fruitiness and grapefruit zest, Columbus for strong hop pungency, Centennial for pine and citrus notes, Cascade for floral aroma.  A multi-dimensional hop experience." lord, i love this beer thank dog that they carry it by the six pack at firefly its $18 mind you but sometimes you just gotta pay more for what you love! the website says:  " Great beer is a rare thing—a coming together of perfect ingredients and perfect brewing conditions. for my drinking pleasure this evening i'm going with an imperial pale ale rather than an ipa.  no good reason why, just happened to love Southern Tier's unearthly ipa and thought i'd give their Hoppe a try. Southern Tier reports:  "2XIPA in the Bottle - April 15, 2010 is the first day for bottling our newest beer, 2XIPA.
