new brews at legacy liquor store in vancouver: Howe Sound La Brew Ha! Ha! A strong, Blegian-style Ale, with fruity and spicy flavours supported by a soft malt character. Brewed with a unique Belian-stytle Ale yeast in celebration of the annual 'Fete de la St.-Jean-Baptiste in Squamish'. 8 Wired Brewing Hopwired IPA 1 of 3 new beers from 8 Wired. This IPA is made using unique New Zealand hops giving off aromas like a 'Tropical Punchbowl'. 8 Wired Tall Poppy India Red Ale A second beer from this group, it has an intense, sharp and fruity hoppiness that is backed by its complex caramel-like malty structure.

howe sound brewing and earl's restaurants have teamed up so now you can get devil's elbow at earl's i don't normally eat at earl's, but i'll be more likely to go now if i can get me a delicious ipa there!

obviously i need to work less either that or stop needing sleep there just isn't enough time in the day after working too many hours to both go drinking and blog about it and naturally i'm choosing to actually go drinking over blogging about it most of the time! speaking of which, i'm off to rogue wetbar tonight to do some beer tasting and food pairing yup, its a four course meal by the rogue chef made to complement four lovely beers by howe sound (and yes, i did just tour their brewery on saturday - apparently its just all about howe sound right now - oooooh, not to mention that they've got a sale on today and tomorrow and if you can get your ass to squamish, you could be the proud owner of cases of beer for 30 - 50% off - sadly i cannot get my ass to squamish to partake...) i have also signed up to partake in rogue's phillips pairing dinner on april 12th menu is not out yet, but i'm sure it will be delightful! and maybe by next year i'll have...

i may have finally recovered from the camra spring trip to howe sound brewing in squamish and mark james group 's high mountain brewhouse in whistler the trip was saturday... lord but those camra vancouver people know how to toss back the beer! for now, a few of the less incriminating photos: still sober aka just got on the bus monty, the bus that broke down sampler at howe sound the bar at howe sound brewery tour hanging with the fermentors the last ever cask of dix ipa taking some of the last cask to go - because we love tasha double fisting aka comparison between the ipas (note the grip is to warm them to equal temperature, not to make sure i don't drunkenly drop them!) a few of the ne-er do wells and there it was, the last cask of dix ipa gone forever the cask is dead - long live the cask!

yup, i still adore the howe sound brews! even more so now that they did a shout out to my blog on their facebook page but it will not affect my impartiality well, not much anyway! got me a 1L pot-stopper bottle of the devil's elbow ipa to share with a friend i love a friend who loves a hoppy beer! i love a hoppy beer to share with a friend! 6% 68 ibus 14.2 degrees plato pours up with a big head on the vigourous pour almost orange in colour (just like its label - hmmm, another ipa that uses orange for its label) slightly hoppy nose very hoppy first sip and second, and third! the bottle says:  "an assertive ale that is heavily bittered and dry-hopped providing an intense aroma.  brewed using selected english and north american barley and hops.  named for the dramatic grade iv devil's elbow rapid on the elaho river north of squamish, bc, canada." "in 1980, bc's john mitchell and frank appleton pioneered north america's first modern craf...

lord, i love a fish taco! if only squamish were closer to vancouver... Howe Sound Brewing   dinner specials look great; Fish Tacos or Salmon w/ Gnocchi & Green Beans or Ribeye w/ Hand Cut Fries & Rail Ale Jus. Top that off with Beeramsu. Have you tried it yet?

howe sound's bailout bitter is a favourite of mine so i thought i'd try the baldwin & cooper best bitter and see how that fared in my opinion incredible head on the vigourous pour lovely dark colour hoppy malty nose great balance between the hops and the malts downright delicious! 5.5% 52 ibus 13.5 degrees plato from the bottle:  "a smooth, malty, well-hopped ale, with a full aromatic nose.  made with 100% barley, hops, water & yeast. the 'best bitter' description refers to this beer's higher alcohol content and its depth of hop bitterness.  named for jim baldwin & ed cooper - the first to climb the grand wall of the stawamus chief [702m] in july, 1961." the website suggests food pairings of steaks, casseroles and meat pies, also spicy shellfish and mexican cuisine, and cheddar cheese i had it with a tuna steak and pizza and it went just fine with both of those! then again, anything hoppy and bitter goes with anything i eat i...
