Library Square and Parallel 49 Brewing Company celebrate 12 Taps of Christmas Celebrate craft beer, Advent-style starting December 1st Beer Advent Calendars are craft beer’s contribution to seasonal traditions, and this year Library Square and Parallel 49 Brewing Company are teaming up to offer the “ 12 Taps of Christmas ”, an opportunity to celebrate Advent-style, even if you weren’t one of the lucky beer fans who was able to snag a limited release calendars. Parallel 49 Brewing Company has contributed 12 beers to this year’s collaboration “Craft Crossing” beer Advent calendar and every odd day in December, starting on the 1st, Library Square will be tapping a keg of the exact same Parallel 49 beer which is in the Advent Calendar on that day. can i just tell you what a lucky gal i am? i went to not one but two christmas keggers on saturday! i love being a beer geek and knowing other beer geeks! the first party featured r&b's esb the second storm's scottish ale bliss!

there is just no time for beer this week well, not no time, just very little time why this week? well its the vancouver queer film festival august 11 to 21 and i'm spending nine of those 11 days involved with the festival mostly watching films but also three nights of volunteering what a saint i am! the two days in my calendar not taken up with the festival are today and next saturday today i get to go join the vanbrewers and sample their wonderful brews before i hit the bc lions game next week i get to go see two wonderful friends get married and they promise me there will be kegs of craft beer at the reception! (of course i would have gone even without that promise) what does this mean in general? not much to anyone but me and my nearest and dearest really but its my excuse to any of y'all who are reading this for the very light content on the blog over this period! and speaking of volunteering, i'll be pouring at beerlesque next friday night (at th...

i hit up a birthday celebration at st. augustine's on wednesday evening and got to try the red truck limited release ipa! ( as featured in scout magazine ) when i first got to st. a's the staff were not aware of the ipa being on the premises after i told them it had been tweeted about they searched around and asked enough boss-type people until the keg was unearthed and hooked up yay! during that time i consoled myself with a deschutes inversion defintely my go-to ipa and a staunch member of my revolving evolving top ten beers list i am very happy that the red truck ipa was found! the juxtaposition of malts and hops, sweetness and bitterness was like a perfect tango on my tongue i really hope there is some left in the keg on sunday when i next get to stop by st. a's couldn't remember if i'd had the lagunita's lucky 13 before so i ordered me one "plenty of light roasted malt to keep it rich and mega-dosed with loads of hoppy - sweet and sp...

brewdog names the top 5 contentious craft beer issues (at least in scotland) as: can vs. bottle keg vs. cask high abv beers duty on beer multinational buy-outs i'd say at least four of the five are relevant for north america as well (the duty issue or setting a minimum price for alcohol isn't currently being addressed by parliament in canadia as far as i know... and i'm too lazy to find out for sure)

poor beleagured camra uk gets blasted by brew dog read the brewdog blog post  to hear what they have to say about camra uk's president vilifying beer bloggers makes me extra happy that camra bc and camra vancouver love beer bloggers and regularly support us by listing us all on their websites and in newsletters! and further yay for the local camra chapters accepting kegs as perfectly good vessels of beer distribution, not just casks that my friends, is support of REAL ale!

its just not christmas without a photo of me with a keg! such style, such grace such fabulous scottish ale from storm! best keg deal in town and really great beer to boot! for all you of the christianish persuasion, merry christmas!!

had the cask at railway last night it was the howe sound cascadian dark ale "gathering storm" tried it kegwise at st. augustines and the alibi found it hoppier at both of those so wonder if the keg needed more aging to make them hops come out or if its just one of those things either way, its a thing of beauty and a joy to behold and these types of things make me very happy as does the great company trying these things thank you to everyone who tasted them all with me!! you know you rock, but sometimes you just need to hear it again! i still think the name, cascadian dark ale kinda sucks but i do love me a black ipa!!! hoppy and dark - what a great combination more, more, more please and, looking forward to the central city dry-hopped ipa at the railway next tuesday night!!

i had been to uva on seymour street a couple of times shortly after bit opened with my foodie wine drinking friends, but must admit i hadn't been there recently until friday night we were on granville street after an early show at venue, just as the canucks game let out we wanted another drink before calling it a night but weren't looking to get swept up in the post-hockey mayhem uva seemed a solid choice i recalled the tapas were tasty, and reasonably priced for such a fancy place i loved their sunday evening tapas and champagne deals in particular... anyway, we had yummy tapas (the risotto balls are especially good for the soul) and i was impressed by their beer list! the beer list is about half belgians then lots of the usual classier imports and there, right at the bottom, are two lost coast choices! i recalled having the indica ipa at st. augustine's from a keg, and liking it so figured i'd probably like it in a bottle too and i did!! lovely citru...
