30 Days of IPA returns for another hoppy year in August Third annual celebration includes beers never tapped before in BC While craft beer trends come and go, India Pale Ale, better known as IPA, remains the signature style of Pacific Northwest craft beer culture. With the Donnelly Group’s third annual 30 Days of IPA set to kick off August 1st, now is the time for fans of this iconic beer style to pick up a calendar and start planning their month of hops. Each day from August 1st - 30th, a different IPA  will be tapped at one of eight Donnelly Group pubs across Vancouver. The festival kicks off 11:30AM on August 1st at BC’s oldest pub, The Lamplighter in Gastown, where a keg of Immortal IPA from Seattle’s legendary Elysian Brewing will be tapped; the first of 30 unique and delicious IPAs sourced from 30 craft breweries across North America being poured during the month. A New IPA Straight from our Hop Devolpment Lab   September 15th 2014: Tucked away in a quiet corner of Phillips Brewing Co is a development lab dedicated to exploring the delicious world of hops. It's a place where different hop combinations yield all sorts of unique IPA hybrid brews which are released in the Hop Box under the Area 52 series. Octofox was one of the early specimens to come out of the Area 52 program, and it was so good we've opted to put it out in its own bomber!  It pours a deep golden colour with a soft marshmallow white head.  Full bodied and bright, flavours of citrus are balanced against a pine-bitter hop profile that finishes dry. Octofox is selectively brewed to be broadly enjoyed. new beers at legacy liquor store in vancouver: Breakside Brewery - India Pale Ale - $7.85 You’ve all been asking for it, and it’s finally happened! Breakside beers have finally landed in our cooler. This Portland brew pours a beautiful transparent orange with a pile of citrus and citrus hops on the nose. not the end of the world, that has been and gone a dozen times already! no, i'm talking about the end of my cleanse and related dry month of january tomorrow tomorrow i drink! but here's the dilemma... what shall i drink? what will my first beer be? ipa, natch but which one? it will most likely be central city's red racer ipa since that's what's in the fridge at work and that's where i'll be headed at 4 tomorrow what will i follow it with? will i down them like water after my drought? will i be smart and ration myself? what will it taste like? will it be the best thing i ever tasted? or will it be too strong for my poor purified taste buds? i'll get back to you...

the beers consumed at this week's monday night football fest: the rogue was from last year and was pretty sedimenty thank goodness the bc relaunch of rogue is next week and i can get some more recent juniper pale ale it was a hit with everyone, even with the sediment hope they still like it when it tastes like it should! both the lone wolf and the lucky 13 went over well so far I haven't taken anything to mnf that people hated i love having non-beer-obsessed friends willing to try whatever i bring along for them!

now this is a beer i must try!! August 13th 2012: A year ago we celebrated 10 years of brewing with a 10% Double IPA, and this year there was only one way to follow it up: Turn it up to 11! So we dialed up the malt and hops across the board, and are celebrating 11 years of beers with Pandamonium--a double IPA monster. Brewed to 11%, we loaded hops into the pre-boil, and then added more hops every 11 minutes over a 111 minute boil for a grand total of 11 hop additions (plus a dry hop). Hopquakes like this don't come around very often and we only turn 11 once, so enjoy this brewtiful beast while you can! Pandamonium 11th Hour IPA is available for a limited time at finer craft-focused liquor stores.

new brews at legacy liquor store in vancouver: Howe Sound La Brew Ha! Ha! A strong, Blegian-style Ale, with fruity and spicy flavours supported by a soft malt character. Brewed with a unique Belian-stytle Ale yeast in celebration of the annual 'Fete de la St.-Jean-Baptiste in Squamish'. 8 Wired Brewing Hopwired IPA 1 of 3 new beers from 8 Wired. This IPA is made using unique New Zealand hops giving off aromas like a 'Tropical Punchbowl'. 8 Wired Tall Poppy India Red Ale A second beer from this group, it has an intense, sharp and fruity hoppiness that is backed by its complex caramel-like malty structure.

last night's central city white tea and orange peel ale cask at the railway club was fabulous! i wasn't getting the usual bitterness of orange peel, but it was definitely citrusy and the white tea gave it a fuller flavour spectrum than just malts and hops there was a whole lot going on in that beer yup, it was a winner! last thursday's cask at the yaletown was their nagila pale ale dry-hopped with spalt it was very drinkable i couldn't get over the colour of it though - so yellow! i was assured by both iain and nick that it was the same colour as the regular nagila pale ale, but i remain sceptical (of course i could have ordered a pale ale and done colour comparison, but i had other beers to try, you know!) see what i mean??? that ain't a pale ale - that's yellow! the seasonal at the yaletown is currently the raspberry wheat i am not the biggest wheat ale fan... but i love this one so fruity and pink and deliciously refreshing! and last,...
