i had a lovely weekend in seattle a weekend is never long enough so there wasn't a whole lot of beer tourism on my part but i got in as much as i could! saturday: pike brewing: i was looking for breakfast at 11:00 but they just have a lunch and dinner menu so i made do with a pretzel and xxxxx stout mustard, with a cup of their crab chowder which were quite delightful - yay oyster crackers! (deschutes' pretzel is better though...) i started with the seasonal space needle ipa pike beat out the competition to win the rights to brew the beer for the space needle's 50th anniversary dry-hopped to heck, it features centennial, cascade, columbus, chinook and summit shockingly enough for seattle the sun disappeared and it started to torentially downpour what else to do but stay and have a few more beers?? next up, the imperial ipa which at 8% is served in a 12oz pour the space needle ipa is supposed to be golden, but i didn't really see a colour...

next up is moylan 's hopsickle imperial ale its triple hopped! so i'm very much looking forward to some incredible hoppy goodness! not an ipa, it is quite balanced between the intense hops and its malts quite the big head on a vigourous pour hoppy nose dark caramel colour 9.2% (yay!) the bottle and the website say: "This is a "Hop" tribute, worthy of a King's Imperial Court! Enjoy the blast of fresh Tomahawk, Cascade and Centennial Hops as they stimulate the taste buds in a truly imperial fashion. Pucker Up!" "“Prohibition in this country ended our brewing tradition,” Moylan explained. “Budweiser and a few others moved in fast and captured many of the larger markets. while at hidden the other night, my tastebuds were tingled by Rogue Brewery's Brutal Bitter. it pours with an awful lot of head, and stays a bit hazy even after it warms up a little.  offered in 650mL bottles, it didn't say what its alcohol volume was, but judging by our lack of addle-brainedness, we figured it wasn't outrageously high!  15 degrees plato, 59 IBUs, 14.2 degrees Lovibond and just 7 ingredients:  100% floor-malted maris otter, cara vienna, cara wheat malts; crystal and rogue farm willamette hops, free range coastal waters and top fermenting pacman yeast.  no chemicals, preservatives or additives.  suggested food pairings are beef and bbq. they say:  "Dedicated to Justin Fisch, the "Shade Man".  An imperial style bitter using exotic traditional floor malts, a hoppy citrus flavor with a stupendous hop aroma.  Hedonistic!" definitely has a hop aroma, its smooth and very easy-drinking.  not particularly bitter and makes a g...

Breaking IPA news!! Hardcore IPA claimed a Gold Medal in the Imperial India Pale Ale category at the 2010 World Beer Cup in Chicago on Saturday.  Woohoo!

i'm currently swilling BrewDog's Hardcore IPA. at 9% i think i might have a lot of fun at the grocery store in half an hour. better write a list...  oops too late, better to have written that list earlier. label didn't grab me quite as much as the punk ipa, not enough contrast is hard for these old eyes to read - love the general brewdog label theme though, and not ashamed to admit label grab is a large part of my beer purchasing checklist called an explicit imperial ale, i'd argue its an imperious ale. definite toffee notes after the first sip, lovely aroma, still hazy after half an hour (again, what do you expect from a beer with no preservatives and no additives - a little haze ain't such a bad thing!), has me licking my chops and slavering for more. what the label says: "This imperial Indian Pale Ale Rocks...
