boo! summer is almost over labour day approacheth me, i'm going out of town for the long weekend but if you're sticking around vancouver there are lots of fun things to do to end your summer on a high note one of which is the gastown bbq and chili festival there is lots of good beer to be had in gastown!

i think i am losing my ability to appreciate spice in my old age i used to be able to pour on the hot sauce but lately... lately i'm finding all the chili beers i drink to be too spicy they hurt my throat drinking them is just not enjoyable the exception remains rogue's chipotle ale that one i can drink a whole pint of more if i'm sick tuesday night at the railway club the cask was central city's red chili white ale i had a taster of it and it hurt my throat the flavour was lovely, but i couldn't get past the throat burn to have more than a couple of sips same thing happened when i was in portland at burnside brewing they had two spicy ales on the menu i tried them both in my sampler (and they do warn you that they contain the hottest pepper known to man) they smelled divine, but i couldn't get past a sip instant throat ache instant disappointment is it me? or are people putting too much spice in the beer? is it so wrong that i want ...

glutton for hop punishment that i am not only did i attend hoppapalooza yesterday, i'm going back to the alibi for more today! what a good deal that was $49 for all the beer i could swill plus delicious chili for dinner (there were several chili choices, including the veggie one i had) and the program!  what a great idea, and a fun read not just a list of the beers available, its a novel about the craft beer movement in vancouver chock full of inside jokes and original artwork for the cover definitely one for the archives of the 40 some odd kegs and 5 casks i got almost half way through trying them yesterday (i do not hold out hope that i will finish the list tonight though - i shoulda gone with half pours yesterday) my original plan was to start at the top of the list and work my way as far down as i could but people kept suggesting beers i couldn't miss, so i took their suggestions and between those went back to following the list 1.   gary's impe...
