New Belgium Brewing Declares a Mutiny on Gluten with Two Gluten-Reduced Ales Year-round offerings, Glütiny Pale Ale and Glütiny Golden Ale, offer uncompromised options for craft drinkers Ft. Collins, Colo., November 16, 2015 – New Belgium Brewing joins the mutiny against gluten by hoisting pints of its new Glütiny ales. The brewery’s latest year-round offerings, Glütiny Pale Ale and Glütiny Golden Ale, give discerning craft beer drinkers uncompromised choices in the gluten-reduced category. The two beers will be available in New Belgium markets mid-January, 2016. Glütiny Golden Ale New Belgium dosed Glütiny Golden Ale with Nugget, Goldings and Cascade hops, and then dry-hopped it again with Cascade. These bright, floral hops lend grapefruit and subtle herb notes to the wash of bready-sweet malts. An addition of oats adds a layer of smoothness to the mouthfeel. At 5.2 percent ABV and 20 IBUs, Glütiny Golden Ale is a sessionable, flavorful ale that starts sweet and ends crisp...

I'll be on CBC Radio One's On the Coast this afternoon. And I'll be giving away this bad boy to one lucky listener: It's 6 litres of Unibroue's La Fin du Monde goodness - 9% trippel-style golden ale that you're going to have to share with some worthy friends! If you don't win this bottle, you can buy yourself one, but you've got to hurry, they're a special limited release by Sleemans. If you're in Ontario , you can also get these monster bottles, but there are only 50 of them available!

well, a re-release actually... and they quote me! Dead Frog Brewery Re-Releases the Taste of BC: Big Stump Spruce Golden Ale Aldergrove, BC — Dead Frog Brewery is pleased to announce the re-release of its Big Stump Spruce Golden Ale. Inspired by forays into the old growth forests of British Columbia, this 6.5% golden ale incorporates Sitka spruce tips harvested a mere 10 minutes away from our brewery. Jan Zeschky of The Province mused, "It’d be pretty special if this beer style one day became an appellation and tourists came to the province to try spruce ale like wine purists flock to Burgundy." Considering the first beer made in BC was a spruce ale brewed by Captain Cook in Nootka Sound, we agree. Big Stump's rich sweetness from Cara and Maris Otter malts balances the bitterness of Simcoe and Northern Brewer hops whose pine notes are heightened by the spring growth of tender spruce tips for a truly unique pint. "I wanted to bring out a bit more of t...

bridge brewing charity ale

Bridge Brewing is part of the North Shore community and founders Jason and Leigh Stratton often participate in fundraisers that support organizations that impact their family, friends and neighbours. Cancer has touched their inner circle and on March 1, Bridge will launch their newest brew – Bridge to the Max Charity Ale – to help raise awareness and money for the BC Cancer Foundations' Ride to Conquer Cancer . Bridge will donate $1.00 from every bomber or glass of its special brew to a team of local cyclists called To the Max . The fundraiser ends once the tank is empty. Bridge brewery assistant, Mac Eldon, is excited to take part in his first ride with the To The Max Team and is happy that Bridge developed a special brew to support this cause. For the sixth consecutive year, To The Max, will ride in this two-day cycling event beginning on June 14 . Since 2009, this North Vancouver team has raised nearly $359,000 towards treatment and research done through the BC Cancer F...

new beers

three new limited editions from dead frog i have had the big stump spruce golden ale and love it! the other two are chillin' in my fridge as i type this: Dead Frog Brewery is pleased to announce the release of its newest ale, the Big Stump Spruce Golden Ale . Harking back to Captain Cook's 1778 arrival in Nootka Sound, this 6.5% golden ale incorporates the terroir of the Fraser Valley with Sitka spruce tips harvested a mere 10 minutes from our brewery. Our brewer, Nick Fengler, was inspired by forays into the old growth forests of British Columbia. We hope this spruce ale will evoke similar images of our verdant land fed by rains nourishing the windward slopes of the Coast Mountains, trickling through the luxuriant growth and into the mighty Fraser River from which we draw our water. Description A perfectly balanced golden ale brewed to celebrate summer on the West Coast. Fresh-picked spruce tips and Simcoe hops provide a tropical pine aroma and crisp bitterness ...

beer column

these are my notes from yesterday's on the coast beer column wherein i made stephen quinn taste hop elixir (i am so very cruel to him): This is "Hop Drop", a hop elixir/hop liqueur made by Phillips Brewing in Victoria .   They made it to go along with their 13 th anniversary brew, called 13 Knots in a Hangmans Noose.   The beer is an 11.9% imperial ipa, which if you add the 29% elixir to it, bumps up to a 13% even hoppier beer. “Hop drop is an artisanal hop liqueur crafted to celebrate the hop flavours that we covet in our beer.   We distilled real hops into an incredibly potent hop elixir, where explosions of fresh pine and bright bitterness are balanced in a blanket of soft sweetness.   Its depth of flavour is robust enough to enjoy on its own poured gently over ice, or it can be ‘dropped’ into another beer to instantly raise the ABV and infuse bright hoppy flavour.”   The elixir will eventually be available on its own from Phillips’ new Fermentor...
