b.c. brews spring sampler packs released food republic's list of power craft breweries brewer's association beer can awards elysian men's room red now in six packs green flash goes retro: Fall 2012 marks our 10 year anniversary and Extra Pale Ale was the first-ever Green Flash success. A celebratory reminder of the beginning for us - and also about how much our style and craft beer culture has evolved over the past decade. While this early Millennium American-Style Pale is from a time less hoppy, we think our 2012 redux is the perfect summer vintage: crisp, refreshing and bubbling with nostalgia. Debuting on May 16th in the Green Flash Tasting Room and draught for national distribution!

evil dead

Image
i went to see evil dead the musical at the waterfront theatre last night what does this have to do with beer? well, they do sell beer at the waterfront theatre you know! not good beer, but its beer i had a granville island brockton oval ipa at intermission this poor beer barely deserves the right to call itself an ipa since they got taken over by mega bland brewers, all the gi beers have gone downhill but since i never really liked any of the other ones i'm most upset by the brockton oval's demise (don't get me wrong, their specialty brews out of the granville island plant are still good beers, its just their regular offerings brewed elsewhere that have suffered from macro-izing) anyway... back to the evil dead musical! i love me a musical especially when people dress up for the event not in their finery, i mean in costume! we used our intermission time wisely - we drank beer! we sat in the splatter zone aka an area totally covered in...

cask night

Image
the cask at the yaletown last night was a basil and lemongrass pale ale i really liked it the basil and lemongrass were not overwhelming it would be a great patio beer if spring would bother to arrive in vancouver! i'm not sure how many more of cory's innovative casks we'll get to sample he is giving up beer to pursue his music career full-time our beer loss is rock and roll's gain break an amp cory! we also got the opportunity to sample a sour beer that ryan brought back from france vent d'ange, aged for 14 months (does that translate to angel's fart??) it had a great nose and initial flavour unfortunately it turned a bit nail polish remover further through the swallow there was quite a group of beer geeks there last night i love it when that happens!

#yvrbeertweetup

i'm not sure what to think of the #yvrbeertweetup at smiley's pub last night it seems kinda funny to me to get a whole bunch of people together and then expect them to be on their mobile devices the whole time weird social scene, you know? i very much enjoyed the red truck worst bitter cask it was the best of the night camra vancouver vice-president dieter friesen gave one of the short speeches at the event and posed for me in front of our stellar banner there were casks there were beers on tap there were prizes so there were good reasons to attend i just might be too old skool for this kind of event to become a "can't miss" in my social calendar and frankly, even with my glasses on i still couldn't see the tweet screen well enough to follow along! gramma's too old for this kind of fun
